A Horse Named Pat

A Story About a Horse Named Pat

Published on November 11, 2024 by Texas Border Tours

Hello! My name is Pat, and I’m the smallest and, if I may say so, the sweetest of the bunch here on the ranch. I might be the “runt” of the herd, but don’t let my size fool you—I have a big heart, especially when it comes to taking care of people, especially the little ones.

I love to see the smiles on people’s faces when they meet me. There’s something so special about making someone feel happy and safe. When children ride with me, I always go extra slow, making sure each step is careful and gentle. I know they trust me, and I never want to let them down. Being the horse that brings joy and comfort is a job I take seriously—and one I love.

One of my favorite parts of the day is when we head out on the trail. I trot along at a nice, steady pace, keeping my eyes and ears open to make sure my rider feels secure. But I’ll let you in on a little secret: while I enjoy the trail, there’s nothing quite like the thought of getting back home to my pasture. As soon as we reach the border fence, I know it’s time to turn back, and that’s when I pick up my pace. It’s like I’m on a mission to get back to the ranch!

My friends always laugh and say, “Look at Pat go! She knows it’s time to head home.” They’re not wrong! I love my little spot in the pasture, where I can relax and snack all I want. The thought of munching on fresh grass or nibbling on a treat makes me feel like a racehorse—well, almost! I may be small, but I can move when I know I’m on my way back.

And did I mention how much I love pleasing people? I think it’s my favorite part of being here on the ranch. Whether I’m carrying a young rider, trotting along the trail, or just standing by for a gentle pat, I always feel happy knowing I’m making someone’s day a little brighter. I may not be the fastest or the biggest, but I know my heart is as big as any horse’s.

So if you ever come visit, look out for me! I’ll be the little one with a sweet look and a happy heart, ready to make friends and maybe pick up the pace when it’s time to head home. After all, I’ve got some serious grazing to get back to!
