A Horse Named Diamond

A Story about a Horse Named Diamond

Published on November 11, 2024 by Texas Border Tours

My name is Diamond, and I live with my friends on the border. I’m what some might call the queen of the herd. I’ve got a sleek coat and a strong, proud spirit that makes me stand out. I might have a bit of an attitude sometimes, but that’s only because I know exactly who I am and where I belong. My friends here at the ranch know it, too—especially my best buddies, Pat and Poke. Together, we have all sorts of adventures!

One of my favorite things is when I get to run. There’s nothing like the wind in my mane as I gallop across the open fields. I feel powerful and free, and every step I take is a reminder that I was born to be fast. Sometimes, I’ll challenge Poke to a little race. He’s playful and curious, but he knows better than to think he can outrun me!

Every day, new people come to the ranch, and I love meeting them. They look at me with wide eyes, some even say, “Wow, she really is a diamond.” I like to walk up close, give them a gentle nudge, and see them smile. I can always tell when they’re a little nervous, so I make sure to give them my calmest look, letting them know they’re in good hands—or hooves, I should say!

When it’s feeding time, I get a bit excited. I love the sound of hay rustling, and the crunch of fresh watermelons is my absolute favorite treat! Sometimes, I wonder if I’ll ever get to taste all the treats in the world. I dream of sweet apples, crunchy carrots, and maybe even a peppermint or two. Life on the ranch is full of little delights like this, and I savor every single one.

But my favorite time of all is sunset. That’s when the sky turns golden and pink, and everything feels calm and peaceful. I stand there, watching the sun dip below the horizon, feeling the cool evening breeze on my face. It’s a quiet moment, and in those minutes, I feel like the whole world is just for me. I wonder if horses everywhere feel this way, like they’re watching something magical.

So, if you ever come by the ranch, make sure to say hello to me, Diamond. I’ll be the one standing tall, with a twinkle in my eye and a spirit that shines as bright as my name. And who knows? Maybe I’ll even let you join me for a little run. Just remember, I’m the queen around here—and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
